Noemi S. Conan (b. 1997, Vienna, Austria) is a contemporary painter whose practice explores psychological states, identity, and perception through a distinctive approach to figurative painting. Her work is recognised for its emotionally charged compositions, where the human form is continuously fragmented, distorted, and reconfigured to reflect the instability of inner experience.

Working primarily with oil on canvas, Conan constructs layered, atmospheric surfaces in which figures emerge and dissolve simultaneously. Faces and bodies are often partially obscured or abstracted, creating a visual language that moves between presence and absence. This tension between visibility and erasure is central to her practice, positioning her work within a broader discourse of contemporary European figurative painting. Her paintings resist fixed interpretation, instead operating within a liminal space shaped by memory, intuition, and the subconscious.

Through a controlled yet fluid painterly process, Conan develops compositions that evoke both intimacy and unease, encouraging a deeper engagement with the complexities of human perception and emotional identity. Conan studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where she developed her painterly language and conceptual framework. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including presentations with Kandlhofer.

Conan was selected to participate in the London-based residency programme curated by Sarah Kravitz in 2024.
