Anna Ruth (b. 1994, Mělník, Czech Republic) is a Prague-based contemporary artist working across painting, installation, and sound. Her multidisciplinary practice explores themes of transformation, memory, and the human condition through a distinct visual language that moves between figuration and abstraction.

Ruth’s work is characterised by its atmospheric and immersive quality, often constructed through layered compositions that evoke dreamlike, symbolic environments. Drawing on personal memory, mythology, and emotional experience, she develops visual narratives that resist fixed interpretation, instead creating open, contemplative spaces for the viewer.

Materiality plays a central role in her practice. She frequently works with natural pigments and incorporates processes such as wet glazing and iron oxide, resulting in muted, earthy surfaces that suggest cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. These elements contribute to a sense of timelessness within her work, positioning her paintings outside of a specific historical or stylistic framework.

Recurring motifs form an important part of Ruth’s visual language. Organic forms such as shells, insects, and botanical elements appear throughout her work, functioning as intuitive symbols shaped by personal experience and evolving over time. These references are not illustrative, but instead operate as emotional and psychological markers, reflecting a deeper engagement with fragility, perception, and interconnectedness.

In recent years, Ruth’s practice has shifted towards a lighter and more introspective register, incorporating symbolic imagery that reflects an ongoing exploration of inner states and the environments we construct around ourselves. Her scenographic approach to painting creates a sense of spatial depth and narrative tension, further reinforcing the immersive quality of her work. Ruth graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 2022. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the solo exhibition Close Quarters at GRIMM.

Ruth was first presented internationally in London at Sarah Kravitz Gallery, Soho.
