Lisa Liljeström (b.1998, Sweden) is a contemporary artist whose practice explores form, perception, and the construction of images through fragmentation and reinterpretation. Working primarily in painting, her work is informed by photographic source material, often drawing on close-up images of objects, surfaces, and fragments of the human body rather than complete or resolved forms.

Liljeström translates these visual references into carefully constructed compositions that sit between abstraction and figuration. Through processes of cropping, layering, and recontextualisation, she isolates details that challenge how images are read, creating works that feel both familiar and disorienting. Her use of the airbrush technique plays a central role in this process, producing soft transitions, blurred edges, and a heightened sense of surface that reinforces the tension between clarity and ambiguity.

Her practice is driven by an interest in how perception is shaped through partial information, where meaning emerges through suggestion rather than direct representation. The resulting works invite sustained viewing, encouraging a closer engagement with texture, scale, and visual rhythm.

Positioned within a broader discourse of contemporary painting, Liljeström’s work reflects a refined and process-led approach to image-making, balancing precision with openness.

Liljeström made her London debut with her first solo exhibition in 2024, presented by Sarah Kravitz.
